On May 25, 2023, we invited data science enthusiasts for the 4th time to Villach. WiDS Villach provided again a platform to get insights into data science,  exchange ideas, foster mentorship and to create valuable connections for the future. More than 300 data science enthusiasts from Austria and all over the world joined an insightful day.

This year we had again three focus session:

• The impact of Data Science on customer data – More and more customer data is being collected. Our experts showed us how these data are already being used to add value in tourism, retail and energy consumption.
• Data Science & Gaming – a fruitful combination? – How data science and gaming interact with each other? And why a data scientist in this context should often also be a lawyer or creative director? These and other questions have been answered in this session.
• How to become a Data Scientist? – The impulse talk by Jilliane Augustine (Principal Data Scientist @ Crayon Vienna) was the perfect introduction to an exciting panel discussion with four experts. The answers were diverse, just as a good data science team should be. Diversity, interdisciplinarity, technical expertise, curiosity and especially soft skills, everyone agreed, lay the foundation for a good Data Scientist.

The event was framed by an art exhibitions & performance by students from BG|BRG St.Martin and CHS Villach.
