On May 19, 2022, we invited data science enthusiasts for the third time to exchange know-how and experiences. More than 250 experts and interested people from Austria and abroad accepted our invitation.
The conference featured three thematic blocks with different focal points and top-class speakers from the region.
Block 1: Sustainable research to solve environmental issues. Every human activity leaves a footprint in our nature. The effects of this are already becoming massively visible. In the first session, researchers presented how hardware and data science can be used to make a contribution to the environment. How computer-aided modeling can help predict air pollutant concentration profiles and what contribution the digitization of forests can make to carbon dioxide storage.
Block 2: Data is the data scientist’s gold! Exciting presentations on the topic of production data, the role of data science for the industry, as well as the opportunities for a Data Scientist in the microelectronic industry were highlighted by the speakers.
A special highlight of the conference was keynote speaker Elisabeth Oberzaucher, director of Urban Human and member of the Austria-wide known Science Busters. With her lecture, she gave new dimensions to the term gut feeling.
Block 3: Information is beautiful – Data Science and Art! The last session of the day started with an art performance by the students of CHS Villach and gave exciting insights into how wonderfully art and data science complement each other. It was shown how machine learning and music can interact and what expressive power the visualization of data in different fields brings.
In line with the theme of the last session, it was possible to admire artworks by students of BG|BRG St. Martin and videos by students of CHS Villach throughout the conference.
